The History of the air raid and its use PT 2

 Air raid philosophy :

The air raid philosophy is about putting speed in space and Spreading the defense horizontally and vertically esp when teams are playing man to man but the use that speed to exploit mismatches and attacking the defense where its weaskest

Concepts :

Mesh,
4 verts,
all hitch's
4 cross
corner sticks
shallow

Personnel;

The air Raid uses 11 personell depending on package now mike leach used 10-20 depending on what he wanted to do on the field at that given time and it helps put speed in space and depending on the formation you can motion the full back in pass protection and it forces the defense to declare their defensive formation

concepts in practice

Mesh : mesh

4 Verts :4 verts

 all hitches      all hitches

4 cross shallow :4 cross shallow

Corner sticks :corner sticks

conclusion:

when it comes to the air raid its easy to learn but hard to master and has we delve in to this study we will learn more

The Air Raid its use and its history pt 1

The Air Raid its use and its history pt 1

The air raid offense is one of the most popular offensive schemes in modern college football but before we can delve in to formations and how to effectively use it we must understand the history of this prolific offense.

a new beginning

The air raid can be traced back to legendary coaches such as hall mumme, (pronounced mummy) mile leach, Sonny dykes, and tony Frankin in there respective tenures at their schools like Washington st (wazzu) and miss st  the air raid is used out of the shot  gun formation with a 4 receiver set and with 2 slot  receivers usually extremely pass heavy  but it can also use a trip set as well depneing on down and distance

History:

The Earliest iteration of the air raid can be traced back to 1941 with the Indiana Hoosiers under Bo Mcmillin who  was already adept at filling the air with deep shots to the end zone or getting chuck yardage plays.

The modern Air raid offense did not make is appearance until the early 80s  when hal mumme and mike Leach took over at Iowa wesleyn and Valdosta st and had success in the 1980s/90 and  the first exposure to modern college football was in 1997  there, Head coach Hal mumme and mike leach
turned qb in to all American qb in 1998  then leach served as the offensive  coordinator at the university of Oklahoma before landing the head coaching job at texas tech. shortly in to the 2000s asst coaches like Chris hatcher,(valdosta st) Art Briles, (houston and baylor) and Sonny dykes (lousiana tech then cal) and many more when on to advance the air raid

The air raid at a glance :

The scheme is notable for its focus on passing, as 65–75% of the offensive plays are passing plays. The quarterback has the freedom to change the play based on what the defensive team shows him at the line of scrimmage, using a vocal signal called an "audible". In at least one instance, as many as 90% of the run plays called in a season were chosen by an audible at the line of scrimmage.[6]

An important element in this offense is the offense does not huddle, known as the No-huddle offense. The offense gets to the line of scrimmage as soon as the previous play ends. The quarterback then diagnoses what the defense is showing, and starts the next play quickly. The quarterback is responsible for the audible play calls most of the time. The quick pace of the offense not only allows a team to come back if they are many points behind, but also tires out the defense and keep them off balance by limiting player substitutions.

Conclusion :

The air raid shares alot of commonalities with  the spread but also stands to be uniqe in modern cfb and will stand the test of time

stay tuned for part 2!

nil and the effects it has on college football

 nil and its effects

At its surface nil can be a used for wonderful things but it can be rife with misuse and and cheating over the last 5 years college football has transformed in to a sport where teams will buy recruits and that is some thing we dont need but the question is how do we fix it?.

i suggest we move nil funds where players can get the money after their four years (graduation) of playing at that school and they can use that money to pay off schooling and set themselves up for life and pay medical bills but who manages this?, not congress not the ncaa but can we trust the schools that we are not sure but there must be a way to make a fix for it all especially with Colorado's qb making 5.1 mill

but we must ask is this what we want for college football? not a bit we need to address this and address this soon

STATS:

Down below is the nil cash that's most schools are paying on average
QB :500k-800k
RB:200k -300k
WR :75k-300k
OL:350k-500k
DL :250k-600k
LB:100k-300k
DB:120k-225k

Brief history:

Nil officially started on July 1fst 2021  but the foundation was laid in 2019 and the ncaa signed a 2.7 billon dollar agreement in may to begin paying players once revenue sharing is approved and be shared in 2025

How much do schools pay?

$1.17 billon with Alabama leading the most with it

Schools play 103,000k a year in nil

Conclusion:

The question is this i must ask for the college football folks is this what we want for the sport we love?  do we really want qausi free agency?

Knife fight in tuscaloosa

Knife fight in tuscaloosa!

It was a championship vibe this week in Tuscaloosa AL as the alabama crimson tide went up against the
Georgia Bulldogs setting up a clash of SEC titans and a test for head Coach kalen DeBoer and yhe tide passed with flying colors snapping Georgia's 41 game winning streak

Tide Starting out hot

the Alabama crimson tide came out swinging Saturday with a magnificent game plan that put the bull dogs down 28 points in the first half with one of those touch downs being a 74 yard reception to the 17 year old phenom Ryan "hollywood" Williams  with mileroe throwing all across the field  the tide struck early and they struck often and when the bulldogs had the ball Carson beck  threw 2 interceptions helping the tide win in the turn over battle

Georgia Answers back

if you thought the game was won and over in the first half you may have been right! but the bulldogs kept fighting and erasing the 28 point lead the tide built in the first half with 2 tds one to get close and the other to take the lead from the tide but Alabama answered back with a 71 yard strike in 2 plays to take the lead back with 2 minutes to go  then Georgia marched down the field only to be intcercepted by the freshman db zimbano to seal the win for the tide

Stats

Ryan Willams :6 rec 171 yds 1 td

milroe 27/33 374 yds 2 tds

Takeaways

alabamas oc nick sheridian learned a valauable lesson in keeping his foot on the gas and not stpping against sec opponents defense also played and insane game likewise ryan willams once again has great talent

Ndsu Came out swinging to start the game with each team having quick and efficient drives that capitalized on defensive miscues on both sides and this shootout could have easily gone in to over time on some blown and missed calls for an example several missed offensive pass interference calls on colorado  along with a clear False start on Colorado but both teams played very well defensively throughout the game (see stats above)

How does this affect the college football playoff?

With the expanded Playoffs every game matters and from what i noticed last night everyone is playing with a bit more intensity

But knowing that there is a possibility we may see these two match up again but will it be a shootout once again? that remains to be seen but we will see AT least one group of 5 team in the college football playoff later this year

Thoughts and conclusion

Overall Week 1  has shown that the 2024 season will be one to remember with the intensity and the chaos that is college football out of the 138 teams  in college football who will be the 12 in the playoffs? and who will be the last one standing

See you all next week!
