College Football Week 2: Chaos Arrives Across the Country

College football wasted little time delivering the chaos fans expect from the sport. Week 2 of the 2026 season featured massive comebacks, ranked upsets, rivalry drama and several performances that immediately changed the national picture.
The weekend was highlighted by Texas storming back against No. 1 Ohio State, Oklahoma State shocking No. 6 Oregon, Michigan defeating No. 11 Oklahoma and several other ranked teams making statements.
Texas Pulls Off an Incredible Comeback Against Ohio State
No. 4 Texas 24, No. 1 Ohio State 23
The biggest game of the weekend turned into one of the most dramatic games of the young season.
Ohio State controlled the game for most of the afternoon and entered the fourth quarter with a 23-3 advantage. Texas, however, completely changed the game in the final period.
The Longhorns scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, eventually taking a 24-23 lead. Hollywood Smothers scored two rushing touchdowns during the comeback, including the go-ahead touchdown with just seconds remaining.
Quarterback Arch Manning completed 23 of 37 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown while also contributing 24 rushing yards.
Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith had a spectacular game despite the loss, catching eight passes for 164 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Julian Sayin threw for 278 yards and a touchdown.
The victory gave Texas a 2-0 start and ended Ohio State's unbeaten beginning to the season.
The result also had major national implications. Texas moved to No. 1 in the following AP poll, while Ohio State dropped to No. 6. (AP News)
Oklahoma State Stuns Oregon
Oklahoma State 39, No. 6 Oregon 31
One of the biggest surprises of Week 2 happened in Stillwater.
Oklahoma State defeated No. 6 Oregon 39-31, handing the Ducks their first loss of the season.
The Cowboys were led by quarterback Drew Mestemaker, who threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns while adding 109 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground.
Oklahoma State's offense produced 554 total yards, repeatedly finding ways to keep Oregon's defense off balance.
The victory was especially notable because Oklahoma State had entered the season after a difficult 2025 campaign. The Cowboys' upset immediately put them back into the national conversation.
Oregon, meanwhile, went from being viewed as one of the country's top teams to having to recover from an early-season defeat.
Michigan Gets Its Statement Win
Michigan 17, No. 11 Oklahoma 10
Michigan answered plenty of questions with a physical victory over Oklahoma in Ann Arbor.
The Wolverines defeated the Sooners 17-10 in a defensive battle that was decided by Michigan's ability to control the ground game.
Freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood contributed 87 rushing yards and a touchdown, while also completing 9 of 17 passes for 111 yards.
Jordan Marshall added a fourth-quarter rushing touchdown that ultimately proved to be the difference.
Oklahoma struggled to consistently move the football and turned the ball over twice. Michigan's defense held the Sooners to 289 total yards.

Alabama Takes Control Against Kentucky
No. 12 Alabama 45, Kentucky 17
Alabama survived a competitive first half before taking over after halftime.
Kentucky led 17-13 at one point, but Alabama exploded in the second half, scoring 32 unanswered points to turn the game into a blowout.
Running back Daniel Hill led Alabama with 104 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Crimson Tide also received a strong performance from its rushing attack, which helped Alabama control the second half.
Alabama's defense limited Kentucky to only 209 total yards and shut the Wildcats out during the final two quarters.
The Crimson Tide improved to 2-0 and continued to establish itself as one of the SEC's major contenders.
Tennessee Rolls Past Georgia Tech
No. 18 Tennessee 45, Georgia Tech 24
Tennessee overcame an early challenge from Georgia Tech before pulling away.
The Yellow Jackets actually led 10-7 after the first quarter, but Tennessee responded with 17 points in the second quarter and never gave up control of the game.
Running back DeSean Bishop was one of the stars of the afternoon, rushing for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
Tennessee finished with 447 total yards, including 299 rushing yards.
Georgia Tech quarterback Alberto Mendoza threw for 221 yards but was intercepted twice, including a pick-six that helped Tennessee swing momentum in the second quarter.
The Volunteers moved to 2-0, while Georgia Tech fell to 0-2.
Iowa Wins Another Defensive Battle
No. 21 Iowa 16, Iowa State 13
The Cy-Hawk rivalry once again produced a close game.
Iowa defeated Iowa State 16-13 after a late field goal gave the Hawkeyes the lead.
Neither team produced much offensively, with Iowa finishing with 284 total yards and Iowa State recording 255.
Iowa quarterback Hank Brown threw for 191 yards and also scored a rushing touchdown.
The Hawkeyes' defense held Iowa State scoreless in the fourth quarter, allowing Iowa to remain unbeaten at 2-0.
Utah Dominates Arkansas
No. 20 Utah 43, Arkansas 10
Utah delivered one of the more convincing performances of the weekend, defeating Arkansas 43-10.
The Utes scored 22 points in the second quarter and never looked back.
Quarterback Devon Dampier threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for two more scores.
Wayshawn Parker added two rushing touchdowns and caught another touchdown pass.
Utah finished with 442 total yards while holding Arkansas to just 305.
The victory moved Utah to 2-0 and gave the Utes an important early nonconference victory.
USC Wins a High-Scoring Battle
No. 14 USC 49, Louisiana 30
USC's offense continued to put up huge numbers.
The Trojans defeated Louisiana 49-30 behind a five-touchdown passing performance from quarterback Jayden Maiava.
Maiava completed 19 of 29 passes for 261 yards and five touchdowns.
USC also rushed for 220 yards, led by King Miller's 128 yards and a touchdown.
Louisiana kept the game competitive offensively, but USC's ability to create explosive plays eventually separated the teams.
The Trojans improved to 3-0 and entered the following week as one of the highest-ranked teams in the country.

The biggest lesson from Week 2 was that preseason expectations mean very little once the games begin.
Ohio State and Oregon both suffered major losses, while Texas and Oklahoma State produced two of the weekend's biggest victories. Michigan also moved back into the national rankings after its victory over Oklahoma.
The updated AP Top 25 reflected the weekend's chaos. Texas moved to No. 1, followed by Georgia and Notre Dame. Indiana and Miami also moved into the top five, while Oregon fell to No. 21 after its loss to Oklahoma State. (AP News)

Week 2 delivered nearly everything college football fans could ask for: a historic comeback, major upsets, rivalry drama and dominant performances.
Texas' comeback against Ohio State was the defining moment of the weekend, but Oklahoma State's upset of Oregon and Michigan's victory over Oklahoma were nearly as significant.
